GUIDED IMAGERY OR VISUALIZATION
The power of the mind is quite remarkable.  Everything we do is processed by the mind through images.  When recalling events from the past or childhood, we think of images, sounds, smells, tastes and last through words.  Imagery is the language the mind uses to communicate with the body and is the biological connection between mind and body.
Unfortunately, many of the images we create are negative ones connected with worry and thus our bodies will speak when our mouths don't.
As a simple example, headache or muscle pain is expressed in the body usually from stress.  Imagery helps release brain chemicals that act as your body's tranquilizers.  Learning to control and direct the images in our minds can help the body heal itself.  Learning to use your imagination in a way that is purposeful can be a powerful tool to help guide you toward your chosen goals including better health.
MEDITATION
Meditation has been generally accepted today in the medical world as a wonderful means of alleviating stress, lowering blood pressure, heart rate, anxiety levels, etc.  Again it is a means of controlling one's thought instead of allowing one's thoughts to be in control.
